heres to hoping arm strength becomes a category
alex rios
seriously, can we do that somehow?
There might be a way to make OF assists a stat category...anyway onward with the draft
Brad Penny
The King would draft Endy Chavez if that became a category.
Steve took Mike Mussina.

Rich Hill
Dan clearly takin' a look at the PECOTAs.
Dude, every system loves this guy. Bill James has him at 253 strikeouts this year. Actually, PECOTA doesn't think too much of him (besides the strikeout an inning).
Although I'm not saying Chris Young wasn't a product of my BP fetish.
Well, what I was thinking in my head but not explaining in words was:
I had Rich Hill on my team in August and September, picked him up off the free agent wire, and I believe dropped him and picked him back up a couple times.
So now he is an 11th round pick (yes, it's the 11th round). But the only reason you would pick him so high is because the yearly projection systems have been touting him, otherwise you would have been jumping all over me trying to get him in September. I mean, he is the exact same guy that I picked up for free back then.
Not that I don't think he has a chance to be a very good pitcher, but I'm not picking him over Mr. X, Mr. Y or Mr. Z, for instance (names withheld to protect my miniscule chances at selecting them.)
It's the same reason that someone would pick Alex Gordon over Mr. XX, and the biggest reason that I don't really care about the draft. By May 1st the values of the vast majority of players will have changed dramatically.
That being said, I'm still trying to trade up.
I don't know, I liked him in 2006, too. I just didn't want to trade for him, because then I would've had to drop one of my keepers (all of whom I like more than Hill).
But I don't think he's going to strike out 253 people. I'd be happy if he strikes out 170, wins 14 games, and has a 3.80 ERA. (Roughly what I think he'll do.) And I'll take that over, say, Josh Johnson, Daniel Cabrera, and Javy Vazquez.
You really think I would take Daniel Cabrera again?
I'm starting to wonder if you're going to take any starters this year.
And is that your admission on the other two? :)
Me? Punt starters?
You know who would enjoy this conversation? Felix.
Where the heck is Felix...
With the first of my newly acquired 3rd round picks I select "the anti-Dunn" Brian Giles
Javier Vazquez welcome back! Dan be damned.
Does this mean that I'm on the clock as of 4:36 PM?
yes
you're right Dan... I would be interested in this discussion. I happen to think Hill will have a very good year. I had him all lined up for the very next picked... as an FYI I also had Swisher all lined up.... so that sucks...2 guys i wanted both picked the 2 spots in front of me
Then... success!
Cory, thanks for sending in my pick for me (and thanks to Trager too). The IT department at work must have just started (as in last night/this morning) blocking the "comments" section of these blogs, though I can still read the posts Dan makes on the main page...
Don't worry, I'll keep updating the front page. If they ever block the front page, we'll work something out.
Scott Rolen
Whoops, I meant Josh Johnson, sorry about that.
